The Maharashtra government has announced the recipients of the prestigious Shiv Chhatrapati State Sports Awards for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, with several sportspersons from Nagpur earning top honours.
Indian archer Ojas Deotale, cricketer Jitesh Sharma, yogasana players Chakuli Selokar and Vaibhav Shrirame, carrom player Yogesh Dhongde, fencer Shruti Joshi, and para-athlete Mangla Adamkar have been selected for the coveted award.
The awards will be conferred at a grand ceremony scheduled on April 18 in Pune, where Governor of Maharashtra Ramesh Bais will felicitate the athletes. The event will also be attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, and other state ministers.
The announcement was made by State Sports Minister Dattatray Bharne at a press conference in Mumbai on Tuesday.
While all the awardees, except Jitesh Sharma, hail from Nagpur, the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman will receive the honour as a resident of Amravati. The recognition comes as a significant boost to the sporting community in Vidarbha.
