Nagpur District Football Association (NDFA) has intensified its efforts to finalize an 18-member squad for the upcoming Western India Football Association (WIFA) Championship final round, scheduled to be held in Nagpur from April 20. The tournament will feature eight teams, including winners from four zonal meets and last year’s semi-finalists.
The selection trials, which began on April 2 at NDFA’s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Football Stadium in Suyog Nagar, initially saw around 50 top footballers from the city in contention. Following 14 days of rigorous evaluation, the selectors have trimmed the list to 35 players. The final squad of 18 will be announced in the coming days, confirmed NDFA secretary Stanley Gregory.
The selection panel comprises Ashok Raut, Mohd Iliyas, and A.B. Khan.
Meanwhile, the championship may face a possible postponement due to unavailability of accommodation in the city, according to reliable sources.
