n a stark case of civic negligence, Pitreshwari Apartment in Nagpur’s Nandanvan area continues to house families—despite being officially declared structurally unsafe. The building, constructed in 1983, is now dangerously dilapidated, yet no decisive action has been taken by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to evacuate or demolish it.
A structural audit conducted by P.T. Mase & Associates on September 6, 2024, concluded that the building is no longer safe for habitation. Following this, the Nehru Nagar Zone office issued a notice on April 7, 2025, instructing residents to vacate. Shockingly, no deadline was specified for demolition—leaving room for confusion and defiance.
Manish Rungta, one of the residents, confirmed receiving the NMC’s notice and even responded. “I’m ready to vacate, but other families are unwilling to move. The NMC has not given a clear timeline, and this delay could cost lives,” he warned.
The building comprises six flats and two shops, all still occupied. Residents are effectively sitting on a disaster waiting to happen. Prior to the official notice, Rungta had raised red flags multiple times—with formal complaints filed on December 12, 2024, February 5, 2025, and March 12, 2025, along with the audit report.
