Gadchiroli district will be among the top cities in the coming years and will be known as the Steel City. The per capita income of the people will increase due to fast development of the district. The tribals in the region will get employment opportunities, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday.
Fadnavis laid the foundation stone of various projects of Lloyd Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL) at Konsari. He inaugurated an iron grinding plant of 5 million tonnes per year at Hendri, an 85 km long slurry pipeline between Hendri and Konsari, and a pellet plant with a capacity of 4 million tonnes per year. He also inaugurated an integrated steel plant with a capacity of 4.5 million tonnes per annum at Konsari, a 100-bed hospital, a CBSE school, and laid foundation stone of the Lloyds Employees’ Colony project at Somanpalli.
Minister of State for Finance and Planning Adv Ashish Jaiswal, Padma Shri awardee social activist Tulsi Munda, legislators Dharmaraobaba Atram, Dr Milind Narote, Special IGP Sandeep Patil, District Collector Avishyant Panda, Managing Director of Lloyd Metals B Prabhakaran, and others were present.
Iron mining in Gadchiroli began in 2016, and employment for about 14,000 local people has already been created. The development is being achieved without destroying the natural resources of Gadchiroli. The slurry pipeline will prevent pollution and carbon emissions by about 55 per cent. The slurry pipeline is the first in the state and fourth in the country, Fadnavis said. Transportation will be through e-vehicles to avoid air pollution.
Quality education and health care facilities are also being created. The identity of Gadchiroli district, from a Maoist-affected area, is being changed to the Steel City.
B Prabhakaran made introductory remarks and provided information about various development works being carried out by Lloyds.
