MP Supriya Sule charged the Mega Alliance Government in Maharashtra of Rs 4,800 crore fraud in the name of the ‘Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana’, announced months before the Assembly elections.
The fraud is evident with the detection of more than 14000 men deriving benefit under the scheme. Sule, the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar Faction) demanded an enquiry through a Special Investigating Team (SIT) in the alleged fraud. The government should publish a white paper on the scheme and an audit of the transactions under the scheme.
As per the Maharashtra Government’s report, 2.38 crore women benefited from the scheme. After the elections, more than 26 lakh (10%) beneficiaries were declared ineligible. How applications of ineligible women and thousands of men were cleared should be investigated.
If the benefits were extended to all the women applicants, who scrutiny of the applications is being done after the elections. She alleged that the fraud is worth Rs 4,800 crore. Despite this, the Women and Child Welfare Department was declared the Best Department by the government. The minister who had taken initiative in announcing and enforcing the scheme should be answerable for the fraud, she said.
