The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s proposal to construct a War Memorial in Nagpur got administrative clearance. The memorial will have information relating to bravery during the four wars of Independent India – viz against China (1062), against Pakistan (1965), for Bangladesh Liberation (1971), and the Kargil War (1999). The information about the brave soldiers will be an inspiration for the next generations.
NMC will enter into two agreements with the Defence and the social organisation ‘Nagpur 2025’ for designing the memorial. Architect Soumya Pande of the social organisation has agreed to design the memorial free of charge.
Municipal Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari had written a letter to Major General S K Vidyarthi of the Department of Defence Services, who agreed to provide a plot of 29,000 Square feet of the Department’s land for the memorial. The Department also issued a No Objection Certificate.
NMC has agreed to sanction Rs 10 crore for the memorial. The designer has been directed to ensure that feelings of none should be hurt while designing and developing the memorial
