It is the tradition of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism to provide a pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere to new students after they come to the university premises and to constantly strive for the all-round development of the students. The students of Mass Communication and Journalism today decided to continue this tradition.
To curb incidents like ragging in the university premises , Anti-Ragging Week is being celebrated from 12th to 18th August,asper UGC Rules 2023. As part of the week, a seminar on the topic of anti-ragging was organized on Monday (18th) at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism under Nagpur University. On this occasion, Professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Dr. Dharmesh Dhawankar and Senior Journalist Anand Bhise were present at the forum.
Prof. Dr. Dhawankar explained about ragging and what does it involves? He gave detailed information about the punishment that students will face if they are ragged. He stated that this includes insulting students, violating etiquette, threatening them, treating them inferiorly, inciting them to violence and harming them.
Senior journalist Anand Bhise said that ragging is done in such a way that students feel ashamed, afraid and hesitant. Ragging also includes teasing and forcing students to do something against their will.
Prof. Shruti Sangode said that in the modern era, the word ragging is a form of harassment, intimidation, physical and sexual harassment that has been going on for years. Ragging destroys the mental and emotional world of the student and destroys their faith in life. As a result, students try to commit suicide. Assistant Prof. Dr. Manisha Mohod explained to the students the process on how to register a complaint against any case of ragging in the college campus, hostel or anywhere in the educational premises. Students Amol Rathod, Shraddha Mahajan expressed their views. Vinay Nimgade supported the program.
