The Maharashtra Transport Department is planning a one-time settlement scheme to recover more than ?2,500 crore in pending traffic fines,.
The proposal is designed to both ease the burden on defaulters and generate additional revenue for the state. Under the scheme, owners of two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws could receive major relief, with an option to clear their dues by paying just 25% of the outstanding amount.
To encourage faster compliance, the department is also considering an incentive: a 50% waiver for fines settled within 15 days.
If approved, the initiative is expected to benefit thousands of vehicle owners while helping the state tackle enforcement challenges and meet fiscal requirements.
