In a major counter-insurgency operation, security forces gunned down four Maoists in an encounter near the Gadchiroli–Narayanpur border on Monday.
According to police, credible intelligence inputs suggested that members of Gatta Dalam, Company No.10 and other Maoist formations of the Gadchiroli Division were camping in the Koparshi forest area.
Acting on the information, 19 C-60 commando units and two CRPF Quick Action Teams launched a search operation under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police (Ops) M. Ramesh.
Despite heavy rainfall in Gadchiroli and Bhamragad over the last two days, the joint force reached the dense forest early this morning. During the combing operation, Maoists opened indiscriminate fire on the security personnel, prompting strong retaliation.
The gun battle continued intermittently for nearly eight hours. Following the exchange, security forces recovered the bodies of four Maoists — one male and three females.
Four weapons were also seized from the site, including one SLR rifle, two INSAS rifles, and one .303 rifle.Superintendent of Police Neelotpal confirmed the operation and said that further search efforts are underway in the area to track down remaining Maoists.
Detailed updates will be shared once available.
