After ten days of festivities filled with devotion and joy, devotees across the state are bidding an emotional farewell to Lord Ganesha today. Streets in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Thane, and other cities are echoing with the familiar chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya!” as idols are carried out in vibrant immersion processions.
Civic bodies have made elaborate arrangements for the day, setting up artificial ponds to promote eco-friendly visarjan, while natural water bodies such as lakes, rivers, and beaches are under round-the-clock police and municipal supervision. Thousands of police personnel, civic staff, and volunteers are on duty to manage the crowds and ensure smooth celebrations.
The farewell processions are accompanied by the thunderous beats of dhol-tasha, synchronized lezim performances, devotional singing, and colorful fireworks. Large community mandals are leading grand processions through city streets, while families prepare for more intimate idol immersions in neighborhood ponds or at home.
For the past ten days, devotees have offered daily prayers, aartis, bhajans, and hymns to their beloved deity. As the immersion day arrives, emotions run high—eyes welling with tears as idols are lowered into the waters, yet hearts filled with hope for the Lord’s return next year.
Ganesh Visarjan, thus, is not just the culmination of a festival but a blend of faith, tradition, and sentiment, uniting people of all ages in devotion and celebration.
