Washim Police have arrested six members of an interstate gang accused of looting freight containers on highways. District Superintendent of Police Anuj Tare told reporters on September 8 that the arrests led to the recovery of stolen goods valued at more than ₹38 lakh.
The case traces back to July 23, 2025, when a freight container (MH 04 JK 7054) transporting medicines from Bhiwandi along the Samruddhi Expressway was intercepted near Karanja by unidentified culprits. The thieves broke all three locks on the vehicle and escaped with 46 boxes of medicines worth nearly ₹2.43 crore.
A week later, on July 30, the company’s manager, Manoj Kumar of Mumbai, lodged a complaint at the Karanja Rural Police Station. Acting on the report, teams from the Local Crime Branch, Cyber Cell, and Karanja Rural Police launched a joint investigation under the supervision of SP Anuj Tare.
To trace the culprits, police examined data from more than 85,000 vehicles that passed through the Samruddhi Expressway on the day of the heist. Two trucks were flagged as prime suspects, prompting teams to pursue leads in Pune, Nashik, Bhiwandi, and across Madhya Pradesh, including Indore, Dewas, and Ujjain.
Acting on intelligence during the Ganesh festival, police intercepted a truck (MP-09/SS-9829) on the Samruddhi Expressway and detained four men — Arvind Anab Singh Chauhan, Bura alias Kuldeep Bharat Chhadi, Kunal Naresh Chauhan, and Antim Kalyan Sisodia. Officers also seized electronic cutters and other tools allegedly used in the robbery.
Interrogation led to the identification of two masterminds, Rajendra Sadulsingh Chauhan and Bharat Ghudavad, who were later arrested from Dewas, Madhya Pradesh.
