To ensure a pollution-free environment for future generations, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaiak has directed that every vehicle in the state must carry a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. He stressed that the menace of fake certificates must be eradicated and announced that a “No PUC, No Fuel” initiative will soon be enforced at all petrol pumps.
Sarnaiak was speaking at a meeting held at the Transport Commissioner’s office, attended by Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar, Joint Secretary (Transport) Rajendra Holkar, and other senior officials.
The minister explained that under this initiative, every vehicle arriving at a petrol pump will have its number plate scanned through CCTV cameras to verify the validity of its PUC certificate. If the certificate is invalid, the vehicle will be denied fuel. However, the facility to immediately obtain a valid certificate will be made available at the same petrol pump to avoid inconvenience to motorists.
He further stated that each PUC certificate will carry a Unique Identification (UID) number, enabling real-time checks on its validity. In the future, authorized showrooms and vehicle repair garages will also be permitted to issue PUC certificates, ensuring that every vehicle on the road complies with pollution control norms.
“This move will go a long way in reducing pollution levels across the state,” Sarnaiak said, while also directing the transport department to take strong action against rackets involved in illegally issuing PUC certificates.
