New Delhi: The Income Tax Department on Sunday dismissed rumours circulating on social media that the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) had been extended till September 30. Officials confirmed that the final date remains September 15, 2025, as announced earlier.
In its statement, the department clarified that misleading messages were being spread, falsely suggesting another extension beyond the revised date. “The due date for filing ITRs, originally set for July 31 and later extended to September 15, has not been extended further,” it said, urging taxpayers to rely only on verified updates from its official handle, @IncomeTaxIndia.
To support taxpayers, the department has kept its helpdesk operational round the clock, offering assistance via calls, live chats, WebEx sessions, and its social media platforms.
On Saturday, the I-T department reported that more than 6 crore returns had already been filed for the Assessment Year 2025–26, thanking both taxpayers and professionals for their cooperation. With Monday being the final day for submissions, the department has once again reminded individuals to file their returns on time to avoid penalties and interest.
