Bengaluru: A passenger on Air India Express flight IX-1086 from Bengaluru to Varanasi allegedly tried to open the cockpit door mid-air on Monday, triggering a hijack scare.
The individual ignored repeated crew warnings, prompting the pilot to suspect a possible hijack and alert security authorities. Cabin crew quickly restrained the passenger until the plane landed safely at Varanasi Airport, where CISF personnel took him into custody for questioning.
An Air India Express spokesperson said the passenger was reportedly searching for the lavatory near the cockpit. “Safety and security protocols were not compromised. The matter is under investigation,” the airline added.
