Nagpur: Former minister and MLA Bacchu Kadu has called off his proposed ‘Rail Roko Andolan’ after the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court took note of concerns regarding possible disruption to railway traffic and public inconvenience. The Court appreciated Kadu’s move, calling it a “good gesture” that would “set an example” for others.
The matter was heard on October 30, 2025, before Justice Rajnish R. Vyas. During the hearing, Advocate Hariom Dhage, representing Kadu, informed the Court that his client had decided to cancel the Rail Roko agitation, earlier planned to press for farmers’ demands. The Court accepted the statement as an undertaking from Kadu.
An affidavit submitted by Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal stated that normal traffic on National Highway 44 and other routes had been restored after earlier farmer demonstrations. However, he raised apprehensions that the planned ‘Rail Roko’ could lead to a serious law and order situation.
Taking note of this, the Court directed that several authorities — including the Ministry of Railways, Central Railway, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and Government Railway Police (GRP) — be made parties to the case to ensure coordinated preventive action. Justice Vyas further directed that the police, railway, and local administration work jointly to maintain peace and prevent any public inconvenience.
Acknowledging Kadu’s decision, the Court said the move reflects a sense of responsibility and concern for citizens’ safety and smooth public movement. The case has been adjourned to October 31, 2025, for further hearing.
