Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh — Several people are feared dead after a passenger train collided with a goods train near Lalkhadan in Bilaspur district on Tuesday (November 4, 2025).
According to railway officials, the accident occurred around 4 p.m. when a MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) passenger train traveling from Gevra in Korba district to Bilaspur rammed into a stationary goods train between Gatora and Bilaspur railway stations.
Police officials said multiple passengers sustained injuries, with some still trapped under a coach of the passenger train. Rescue operations are underway to extricate them.
“All available resources have been deployed at the site, and efforts are being made to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured,” a railway spokesperson said.
Visuals from the scene show a coach of the passenger train mounted atop a wagon of the goods train. A senior police official told PTI that some of the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals, though the exact number has not yet been confirmed.
