Yavatmal — In a major boost to medical education and healthcare infrastructure, the Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College in Yavatmal has received approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for 18 additional postgraduate (PG) seats. The approval, granted on Tuesday, raises the total number of PG seats at the institution from 67 to 85.
According to officials, the newly sanctioned seats include 4 in General Medicine, 3 each in Dermatology and Obstetrics & Gynecology, 4 in Pathology, 4 in Anesthesiology, and 3 in Respiratory Medicine.
The introduction of these additional seats will enable the respective departments to expand their postgraduate programs, thereby enhancing clinical training, patient care, and specialized healthcare services in the region.
The development marks a significant step toward strengthening medical education opportunities for students from Yavatmal and across Maharashtra who aspire to pursue advanced medical degrees.
The achievement was made possible through the collective efforts of Dean Dr. Anil Batra, PG Associate Dean Dr. Anand Asiya, the Heads of Departments, and other faculty and administrative staff, who worked diligently to secure the NMC’s approval.
College authorities expressed optimism that the expansion will not only benefit medical aspirants but also help improve the quality of healthcare delivery in the region.
