Cricket’s biggest stage is set to return to Ahmedabad! The city has been chosen to host the final of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup — just three years after hosting the ODI World Cup final. The grand match will take place at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest cricket ground with a seating capacity of over one lakh.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shortlisted five venues for the tournament — Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai — reaffirming Ahmedabad’s growing status as India’s cricket capital.
India, the defending T20 champions after their 2024 win in Barbados, will be eager to script a better ending this time. The last global final held in Ahmedabad saw India lose to Australia in November 2023.
Bengaluru has missed out on hosting rights once again. The city was dropped from both the men’s and women’s World Cup lists after the tragic stampede at the RCB IPL celebration in June, which killed 11 people. Since then, the Chinnaswamy Stadium has not hosted any international match.
The 2026 T20 World Cup will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. As part of an ICC-brokered deal, Pakistan’s matches will be played in Sri Lanka. If Pakistan qualifies for the final, the title clash will also move to a Sri Lankan venue.
The complete schedule for the February-March tournament is expected to be announced next week. With five top Indian cities in the lineup, organisers expect packed crowds and a festive cricketing atmosphere — with Ahmedabad once again at the heart of world cricket.
