The King of Pop’s legacy is moonwalking back into the global spotlight. The trailer for Michael — the highly anticipated biopic on Michael Jackson — has captivated audiences worldwide, garnering an astounding 116.2 million views within 24 hours of its release. This milestone marks Lionsgate’s biggest trailer debut to date and sets a new record for a music biopic.
The film, simply titled ‘Michael’, promises to go beyond the stage lights and explore the man behind the music. The trailer introduces Jaafar Jackson, the late singer’s real-life nephew, stepping into his uncle’s shoes with uncanny precision – from the signature moonwalk to the unmistakable charisma of the ‘Thriller’ era.
The cast features Miles Teller as attorney John Branca, Colman Domingo as patriarch Joe Jackson, Kat Graham as Diana Ross, and Nia Long as Katherine Jackson. Also joining the ensemble are Laura Harrier, Kendrick Sampson, and Juliano Krue Valdi, who portrays a young Michael.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, the film is produced by Graham King, John Branca, and John McClain. ‘Michael’ is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on April 24, 2026.
According to the official synopsis, Michael “traces Jackson’s journey from his Jackson Five beginnings to his rise as one of the most visionary and complex entertainers in history,” offering an intimate look at both his artistry and personal life through defining moments of his early solo career.
The trailer is set to play in theatres from next week, and with its record-breaking debut, Michael is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated biopics in recent years.
