In a tense early-morning incident that gripped Dongargaon village in Sindewahi tehsil, a wild bear that wandered into a house on Tuesday was successfully tranquillised and captured after a nearly five-hour rescue operation by the forest department.
The episode unfolded around 6 a.m., when Sundar Kawadu Jumanake was busy with household chores and heard an unusual noise. On checking the front door, he was startled to find a bear inside his home. Acting swiftly, Jumanake stepped out and locked the animal inside, preventing a potentially dangerous confrontation. He then alerted Range Forest Officer Anjali Sayankar (Borawar).
As word spread, villagers gathered outside the house, prompting authorities to take additional precautions. The forest department quickly reached the spot and secured the area with safety nets. The Rapid Response Team (RRT) from the Tadoba–Andhari Tiger Reserve was also called in to assist.
Senior officials, including Deputy Conservator of Forests Dr Kumarswami and Assistant Conservator of Forests Dr M.B. Gaikwad, supervised the operation. Veterinary officer Dr Ravikant Khobragade administered a tranquilliser shot at the right moment, enabling the team to safely capture the bear inside a cage at 10:52 a.m.
The successful rescue brought immense relief to the villagers who had anxiously watched the high-risk operation unfold.
