After a gap of three years, the VCA Stadium in Jamtha is gearing up to host its 13th T20 International next month. India will play New Zealand in a limited-overs series ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup, featuring three ODIs followed by five T20Is.
As per the schedule released by the BCCI, Nagpur and Vidarbha cricket fans will get to witness the opening T20I of the series on January 21, with the match slated to start at 7 p.m. Officials from the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) said preparations are in full swing.
“Work on seating arrangements and the press box is progressing rapidly. All arrangements will be completed well before match day to ensure a smooth spectator experience,” a VCA source said.
Previous Encounters at Jamtha
Jamtha last hosted a T20 International on September 23, 2022, when India defeated Australia by six wickets in a rain-shortened eight-over contest.
The upcoming clash will be the second T20I between India and New Zealand at this venue. Their previous meeting here came during the 2016 T20 World Cup, when New Zealand beat India by 47 runs. Despite that early setback, India has gone on to remain unbeaten in the last three T20Is played at the ground.
The stadium staged its first T20 International in December 2009, featuring India and Sri Lanka.
A High-Scoring Venue
With a seating capacity of around 45,000, the VCA Stadium is known for producing high-scoring matches in white-ball cricket, making it a crowd-favourite venue for limited-overs fixtures.
