The State Cabinet has approved the Chief Minister Baliraja Farm/Panand Road Scheme, which will soon be implemented across Maharashtra, including Nagpur. The project aims to improve connectivity between villages, farms and markets, especially in remote areas.
The State Government has assigned the responsibility of implementing the scheme to the Revenue and Forest Department. Under the project, all-weather tar roads will be constructed to ensure better mobility. The scheme will be rolled out across the State and is expected to be completed within the next four years.
As part of the project, all encroachments on Panand roads marked on official maps will be removed by the concerned departments. Road construction will be carried out under the jurisdiction of Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, the Public Works Department of Zilla Parishads, Pradhan Mantri and Mukhya Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the Forest Department and the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA).
Funding for the Panand roads will come from the State Government as well as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. The project will include construction of new asphalt roads, maintenance of existing roads, and related works such as deepening of rivers, canals and nullahs.
Villagers will be allowed to use excavated silt, stones and other materials free of cost. A separate fund has been approved by the Revenue Department specifically for this project and will be used only for Panand road-related works.
All civic bodies have been directed to prepare action plans for Panand roads within their jurisdiction and will be responsible for removing encroachments. The State Government has also constituted a 27-member review committee headed by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule to monitor the project’s progress.
