Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has appreciated the unique 2026 calendar published by the social organization Janakrosh – For Better Tomorrow, which has been created using paintings received from school children across the country on the theme of road safety.
The calendar, prepared by the senior citizens’ organization Janakrosh, which has been working in the field of road safety since 2012, was recently released by Nitin Gadkari. On the occasion, Janakrosh President Prakash Khandekar, Secretary Ravindra Kaskhedikar, along with Sanjay Dabli, Rajabhau Vazalwar, Dnyanesh Pahune, Subodh Deshpande, Dattaji Kulkarni and Prashant Mendhi were present.
Janakrosh regularly conducts road safety awareness activities in schools, colleges, offices and at traffic signals. In addition, awareness lectures are organized for vehicle drivers. The organization also publishes a road safety–themed calendar every year.
Speaking about the special features of this year’s calendar, Ravindra Kaskhedikar said that with the objective of inculcating a sense of responsibility towards following traffic rules from an early age, school students across the country were invited to create paintings on road safety. The initiative received an overwhelming response, with hundreds of paintings submitted. From these, outstanding artworks by students from Nagpur, Bhandara, Buldhana, Yavatmal, Dhule, Rohtak, Gandhinagar, Indore, Goa, Bengaluru and Dehradun were selected for the calendar. The thoughtfully and beautifully created paintings clearly reflect how deeply the awareness of road safety is ingrained in children. Along with the paintings, traffic symbols and information about traffic rules have also been included in the calendar.
Unique ‘No Horn Day’ Feature
While calendars usually highlight holidays, festivals and national days, the uniqueness of the Janakrosh calendar lies in the declaration of the 3rd of every month as ‘No Horn Day’. The initiative conveys a message to avoid using vehicle horns on that day and to reduce noise pollution for at least one day every month, Kaskhedikar added.
