Maharashtra Holiday List 2026: State Notifies 24 Public Holidays

The Maharashtra government has officially released the list of public holidays for the year 2026. Issued under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the notification declares a total of 24 holidays to be observed by state government offices, institutions and designated establishments.

The holiday calendar includes national, state and religious festivals, highlighting Maharashtra’s cultural diversity. The year begins with Republic Day on Monday, January 26, and features several long weekends, such as Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday, September 14, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on Friday, October 2, and Christmas on Friday, December 25.

Notably, Maharashtra Din and Buddha Purnima will both be celebrated on Friday, May 1, 2026. Independence Day and Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi) will fall on the same day, Saturday, August 15.

Traditional and religious festivals are well represented. Gudhi Padwa, the Marathi New Year, will be observed on Thursday, March 19. Other key holidays include Holi on March 3, Diwali Amavasya on Sunday, November 8, and Diwali (Bali Pratipada) on Tuesday, November 10. The state will also observe Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on Thursday, February 19.

The notification serves as the official guide for public and administrative planning across Maharashtra in 2026.
