Passengers using Nagpur Railway Station may soon get relief from last-mile travel hassles, with Central Railway introducing a dedicated pick-up and drop-off point for app-based and prepaid taxi services within the station premises. The long-pending facility is expected to become operational within the next couple of days.
For months, commuters arriving at or departing from the station were forced to walk up to Jaistambh Chowk near the SBI office to access cab services, as the area had informally become the primary pick-up point. The absence of an authorised cab zone within the station caused inconvenience, especially for elderly passengers, families and those carrying heavy luggage.
The newly designated cab facility is expected to significantly improve passenger convenience by offering safer and more organised access to taxi services. Railway officials said the move addresses repeated demands from passengers seeking both comfort and choice in transport options.
With the prepaid taxi contract now awarded, cab operations are likely to commence shortly. Confirming the development, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr DCM), Central Railway, Nagpur Division, Aman Mittal said the contract has been given to Bharat Cabs, a Nagpur-based company. The firm plans to begin operations not only at railway stations but also at the city’s airport.
Officials believe the initiative will streamline traffic movement around the station premises while ensuring regulated and reliable cab services for passengers.
