Renowned industrialist and founder of India’s first licensed private defence manufacturing company, Satyanarayan Nuwal, has been honoured with the Padma Shri for his outstanding contribution to the trade and industry sector, bringing national recognition to Nagpur’s industrial legacy.
Nuwal, who heads the city-based Solar Group, is credited with pioneering the indigenous manufacturing of ammunition in the private sector. Under his leadership, the group has grown into a global enterprise, exporting high-energy materials to advanced markets including the United States, Israel and several European countries.
With its roots firmly established in Nagpur, the Solar Group today operates manufacturing facilities across multiple locations in India and on four continents worldwide. The company commands the largest share of India’s exports in the explosives segment, supplying products to as many as 82 countries.
Expressing gratitude on receiving the honour, Nuwal described the recognition as a humbling moment and acknowledged the collective efforts of his team in building a globally competitive Indian enterprise.
The Padma Shri recognition further highlights Nagpur’s growing prominence in strategic manufacturing and India’s expanding footprint in the global defence and industrial sectors.
