A 59-year-old woman died after suffering severe burn injuries when her saree accidentally caught fire while she was lighting an oil lamp at her home in Wadi.
The incident took place on January 14, 2026, at a residence in Kohale Layout on Khadgaon Road. The deceased, Sushila Phalgun Chatale (59), was performing a ritual in the prayer area when the loose end of her saree came into contact with the flame.
Family members rushed her to Padole Hospital, where she underwent treatment. However, she succumbed to her injuries at around 9:15 am on January 26.
Following a complaint by Phalgun Tukaram Chatale (73), Wadi Police registered a case of accidental death. Further inquiries are in progress.
