The last rites on Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar were performed at Vidya Trust ground at 11 am on Thursday. Pawar died in a plane crash in Baramati on Wednesday morning.
The funeral procession was taken out from his residence at Katewadi at 9.50 am. After the religious Mantra’s were recited, the funeral was performed with state honour, in presence of a thousands of his supporters and leaders from across Maharashtra.
Besides members of Pawar family, including ex-Union Minister Sharad Pawar, MP Supriya Sule, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Nitin Nabin, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawamnt, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Nationalist Congress Party leaders Praufl Patel, Sunil Tatkare, Dhananjay Munde, Hasan Mushrif etc.
The pyre was lit by Ajit Pawar’s elder son Parth Pawar.
The huge crowd gathered to pay last tributes to their leader could not control tears. They continued to shout slogans ‘Ajit Dada Parat Yaa’ (Ajit Dada Come Back), Ajit Dada Amar Rahe.
