In a proud moment for the city, Flight Lieutenant Priyanka Khandekar was honoured with the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Commendation Award on Republic Day 2026, recognising her exemplary courage and operational performance during Operation Sindoor.
The prestigious award acknowledges her professionalism, skill and steadfast dedication while serving in challenging operational conditions. An officer of the Indian Air Force, Flight Lieutenant Khandekar has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment to national service.
A native of Nagpur, she is an Electronics Engineering graduate from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT). Her strong academic foundation translated seamlessly into operational excellence in the Air Force. Currently posted at Pathankot, close to the Pakistan border, she continues to serve in a strategically sensitive area, upholding the highest standards of military discipline and duty.
The honour carried special emotional significance for her family. Her father, Santosh Khandekar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Morshi (Amravati Rural), described the recognition as one of the most memorable moments of his life. Reflecting on the occasion, he said that Republic Day marked his final year in uniform and witnessing his daughter being decorated on the same day made the moment deeply meaningful and unforgettable.
