Maharashtra is witnessing an unusually early rise in temperatures, with winter conditions fading by mid-February. The India Meteorological Department has indicated that maximum temperatures across the state are expected to increase by another 2–3°C over the next 24 hours. The heat is likely to intensify further, particularly in the regions of Vidarbha and Marathwada.
In recent days, several areas have already recorded daytime temperatures exceeding 37°C. While mornings remain relatively pleasant, afternoons are becoming increasingly harsh, making outdoor activities uncomfortable. Vidarbha, which is known for its extreme summer heat, often sees temperatures crossing 45°C as early as March. Cities such as Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Akola frequently rank among the hottest in the region. With summer setting in ahead of schedule this year, meteorologists caution that new temperature records could be set.
On February 19, dry and summer-like conditions are expected to continue across most parts of the state. In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region—which includes Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and the Konkan coast—rising heat levels combined with high humidity are expected to increase discomfort. Mumbai’s maximum temperature is likely to hover between 34°C and 36°C, while minimum temperatures may range from 22°C to 24°C. Elevated humidity levels will make afternoons feel particularly oppressive, even though mornings and evenings may remain comparatively milder.
In Western Maharashtra, residents may experience a brief spell of morning coolness, though it is unlikely to persist. Daytime temperatures are forecast to rise to 35–37°C, especially in dry and open areas. Vidarbha and Marathwada will continue to be the hottest regions, with Marathwada expected to record 36–38°C and parts of Vidarbha potentially reaching 38–39°C. Nighttime temperatures across these areas are anticipated to range between 16°C and 21°C.
Overall, the temperature trend across Maharashtra is steadily climbing, with indications that even the remaining morning chill may soon diminish. Authorities advise residents to limit exposure to the afternoon sun, stay well hydrated, cover their heads when outdoors, and wear light, breathable clothing to minimize the risk of heat-related stress.
