Nagpur’s rising swimming talent Yash Gulhane has etched his name in the record books by winning his first-ever international medal at the prestigious Zirk Swim Cup held in Tartu, Estonia.The competition is regarded as Estonia’s biggest international swimming meet and regularly features elite swimmers, including Olympic finalists from Estonia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.
Representing India in the open category, Gulhane competed in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events, delivering standout performances across all races.His most notable achievement came in the 100m breaststroke, where he clocked a personal best of 1:05.77 to secure the bronze medal, marking a significant milestone in his career.
Gulhane also registered personal best timings in other events. He finished fourth in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 29.71 seconds and secured sixth place in the 200m breaststroke with a timing of 2:29.61, demonstrating remarkable consistency against a strong international field.With this achievement, Gulhane has become the first swimmer from Nagpur to win a medal at an international swimming competition, bringing pride to the city and the country.
A final-year BTech Computer Science student at GH Raisoni College of Engineering, Nagpur, Gulhane credited his success to the unwavering support of his parents, Dr Pradnya and Anil, and his brother Devesh. He is training under the guidance of coaches Nitin Malwade and Roshan Chaudhari.
Senior sports personalities and coaches from Nagpur have congratulated him on his historic achievement and wished him continued success in upcoming competitions.
