India’s largest private LPG bottler Confidence Group, which supplies commercial gas to the hospitality sector and auto LPG networks under the GoGas brand, has warned that it has stocks for only 8–9 days amid supply disruptions caused by the West Asia conflict. Chairman and Managing Director Nitin Khara said the company is continuing domestic and commercial supplies but has stopped exports to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka after a court order to conserve stocks.
Two Norwegian-flagged LPG vessels carrying 11,200 and 11,500 metric tonnes of refrigerated LPG, which were loading in Iraq, are stuck in the Persian Gulf as crews refused to sail through the conflict zone. Khara said the vessels cannot move easily because they are not Indian-flagged ships.
To ease the situation, the company has signed a deal with US-based B B Energy for a shipment of 14,000 metric tonnes of LPG, expected to reach India by mid-April after about 28 days of sailing.
Meanwhile, a Maharashtra government resolution allowing limited LPG supplies to restaurants has been termed ambiguous by restaurateurs, who say there is still no clarity on how their gas requirements will be calculated.
