Air India on Tuesday announced it will operate additional flights to Europe and North America over the next two weeks, citing strong demand for international travel amid the ongoing situation in the West Asia region.
The airline will run 36 extra flights between March 19 and March 28, connecting Delhi and Mumbai with major destinations including London Heathrow, Toronto, Frankfurt and Zurich.
This expansion will add more than 10,000 seats across these routes, boosting capacity and providing passengers with greater travel options at a time when global connectivity remains limited, the airline said.
The additional services will cover routes such as Delhi–London Heathrow, Mumbai–London Heathrow, Delhi–Frankfurt, Delhi–Zurich and Delhi–Toronto.
The latest move follows the airline’s earlier decision to operate 78 extra flights on nine routes between March 10 and March 18 to accommodate rising demand.
Bookings for the new flights are being gradually opened across all platforms, including the airline’s official website, mobile app and authorised travel agents.
According to the airline, the capacity increase is aimed at supporting passengers as evolving geopolitical conditions continue to impact travel demand and route availability.
Earlier, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted temporary relaxations in flight duty norms for Air India’s long-haul services to Europe, the US and Canada. The move comes as the airline has been forced to take longer routes due to airspace restrictions linked to the Iran conflict, affecting operations and travel schedules.
Meanwhile, IndiGo last week said it will operate 252 weekly flights to and from West Asia between March 16 and March 28. This includes around 126 weekly flights to Saudi Arabia, 98 to the United Arab Emirates and 28 to Oman.
However, IndiGo added that flights to several destinations — including Doha, Kuwait, Bahrain, Dammam, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah — will remain suspended until March 28 as part of temporary network adjustments.
