A wedding ceremony in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district turned dramatic after a bride allegedly garlanded her lover instead of the groom during the varmala ceremony, triggering chaos at the venue. The incident reportedly took place in a village near Parasia, and a video of the episode has now gone viral on social media.
According to reports, the groom had arrived with the wedding procession and preparations for the varmala ceremony were underway. As guests gathered around the stage, the bride reportedly walked up with the garland, but instead of placing it around the groom’s neck, she suddenly ran toward her alleged lover who was present at the venue and garlanded him instead. The unexpected move left guests and family members shocked.
The situation soon turned tense, with arguments and chaos breaking out between both families. Reports claimed that the bride’s relatives allegedly assaulted the young man, leading to further commotion at the wedding venue. Amid the uproar, the groom refused to continue with the marriage and left with the baraat without completing the ceremony.
Sources said the bride and the youth had reportedly been in a relationship for nearly two years, and the marriage was allegedly fixed under family pressure. Following the incident, the groom’s family is said to have approached the police, claiming emotional and financial losses due to the cancelled wedding. Police have reportedly begun an investigation into the matter.
