sA fresh spell of unstable weather is expected across Maharashtra on May 4, with the India Meteorological Department issuing alerts for 11 districts.Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of up to 60 kmph are likely, even as heatwave-like conditions continue in regions like Konkan, Pune and Marathwada.
This contrasting weather pattern means some parts of the state will face both storm risks and intense daytime heat. Several districts are expected to see dry and very hot afternoons, while Vidarbha prepares for thunderstorm activity. Authorities are closely monitoring rapidly changing conditions, especially where high temperatures combine with strong winds and lightning.
As per IMD forecasts, seven districts are under a Yellow Alert and four under an Orange Alert for May 4. The Orange Alert indicates a higher risk of severe thunderstorms, frequent lightning and strong gusts. Wind speeds may reach 50–60 kmph in affected areas, along with moderate rainfall.In the Konkan belt, including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, hot and humid conditions are expected to persist.
Temperatures are likely to range between 33°C and 35°C, with high humidity making it feel hotter, especially in the afternoons.Northern districts such as Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule and Nandurbar are expected to remain mostly dry, with temperatures rising to around 41°C. The Pune division, covering Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Solapur, may see daytime temperatures between 37°C and 40°C.
The Marathwada region, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Jalna, Latur, Dharashiv, Parbhani, Nanded and Hingoli, is also likely to remain dry but extremely hot, with temperatures touching 42°C.Meanwhile, Vidarbha is bracing for stormy weather.
In the Amravati division—Amravati, Akola, Buldhana, Washim and Yavatmal—light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms and lightning is expected, even as temperatures remain between 41°C and 44°C.The Nagpur division faces a more serious situation, with an Orange Alert issued for Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli.
These areas may experience intense thunderstorms, frequent lightning and strong winds. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow updated IMD advisories.
