Nagpur District Collector Kumar Ashirwad has directed strict action against those involved in illegal excavation activities after a dramatic operation carried out by revenue officials in Kuhi taluka. A case has been registered and the accused JCB owner and operator, Ayur Thote, has been arrested by Veltur Police.
The incident took place on the night of May 5 at Mouza Bori (Naik) under the jurisdiction of Veltur Police Station, where illegal murum and soil excavation and transportation was allegedly underway. During the operation, Naib Tehsildar Buddhabhushan Nikalje displayed exceptional courage while attempting to seize the JCB machine involved in the illegal activity.
According to officials, after being caught red-handed, accused Ayur Thote allegedly drove the JCB recklessly for nearly three kilometres from the spot in an attempt to escape. Naib Tehsildar Nikalje, who had climbed onto the machine to stop the operation, risked his life while repeatedly asking the operator to halt the vehicle. Authorities stated that the accused ignored warnings and endangered the officer’s life through negligent and dangerous driving.
Taking serious note of the incident, Collector Kumar Ashirwad convened an urgent meeting of senior revenue officials and instructed them to continue an intensive crackdown against illegal excavation activities across the district. The meeting was attended by Additional Collector Pravin Mahire, Resident Deputy Collector Anoop Khande, all Sub-Divisional Officers and District Mining Officer Atul Dod.
Veltur Police arrested accused Ayur Thote on May 6. A case has been registered against him under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 303(2), 62, 132, 221, 121(1) and 109, along with Sections 48(7) and 48(8) of the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code. Further investigation is underway.
