Chef Vishnu Manohar brings authentic Kolkata-style street flavours to Nagpur as the spicy snack festival attracts huge crowds in the Orange City.
The flavours of Bengal have arrived in Nagpur as celebrity chef Vishnu Manohar has introduced the iconic Kolkata street snack Jhalmudi through a specially curated food festival that is witnessing an overwhelming response from food lovers.
The unique “Jhalmudi Mahotsav”, being organised at “Vishnu Ki Rasoi”, is giving Nagpur residents a chance to savour the spicy, tangy and crunchy flavours of Bengal’s famous roadside snack in several innovative varieties.
Known for its fiery blend of puffed rice, mustard oil, spices and fresh ingredients, Jhalmudi has remained one of West Bengal’s most popular street foods. At the festival, the traditional snack has been recreated with modern variations while preserving its authentic Bengali taste.
Speaking about the initiative, Chef Vishnu Manohar said the puffed rice and special spices used in the preparations were sourced directly from West Bengal to maintain originality. “We wanted Nagpur residents to experience the authentic flavour of Bengal. Jhalmudi is not just tasty and spicy, but also a nutritious snack if prepared with the right balance of ingredients,” he said.
According to the organisers, arrangements have been made for nearly 1,500 to 2,000 visitors during the festival. Families, youngsters and food enthusiasts are thronging the venue, turning the event into a vibrant celebration of Nagpur’s food culture and Bengal’s rich culinary heritage.
