Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced that the inauguration of the tallest Hanuman statue in Central India at Koradi is likely to take place in June in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The massive statue has been constructed within the premises of the Shri Mahalaxmi Jagdamba Sansthan in Koradi, a place considered one of Central India’s prominent spiritual centres.
Speaking to the media, Bawankule said the temple complex is being developed not only as a spiritual destination but also as a major tourism and skill development hub. Special focus is being given to women self-help groups, employment generation, youth skill training and cultural tourism through multiple projects being developed in the area with the support of Nagpur Improvement Trust and Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority.
The Hanuman statue stands at a total height of 206 feet from the foundation level, while the statue itself is 162 feet tall. A 74-foot mace (gada) has also been installed as part of the structure. The complex will feature a “7D Hanuman Chalisa Projection” experience, aimed at giving devotees an immersive spiritual and cultural experience based on the life and values of Lord Hanuman. Important episodes from Hanumanji’s life will also be showcased beneath the statue structure.
Bawankule informed that the larger pilgrimage and tourism development project includes an ancient Jagdamba temple, Ramayan Cultural Centre, Bharat Mata Mandapam, power generation presentation centre, adventure park, kids zone, boating project and a unique skill university. Facilities such as a 500-student hostel, affordable education for 800 students, a three lakh-book e-library and healthcare services are also being planned within the campus.
The Maharashtra government has granted administrative approval of ₹214.94 crore for the overall development plan of the pilgrimage centre. Bawankule also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar for their support towards the project.
Large-scale landscaping and development of a butterfly garden are also proposed as part of the beautification of the temple premises. Officials including District Collector Kumar Ashirwad, Superintending Engineer Prashant Bhandarkar and Project Consultant Avinash Navarkar were present during the briefing.
