The BJP Medical Cell has submitted a complaint to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Health Committee and Sitabuldi Police Station seeking an inquiry into alleged misleading claims related to “cancer-curing medicines” and hair treatment therapies being promoted in the city through social media.
In the complaint, BJP Medical Cell President Dr. Vinod Date alleged that a person projecting himself as a “hair treatment specialist” is scheduled to visit Nagpur on May 16 and is advertising treatments claiming to cure cancer and other serious illnesses through medicines and herbal therapies. The organisation raised concerns over the scientific and legal validity of such claims and demanded immediate verification by authorities.
The memorandum questioned whether the medicines being promoted have approval from the AYUSH Ministry and whether any human clinical trials or scientific studies recognised by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) or other authorised agencies have been conducted. It also sought details about the safety, quality and possible side effects of the medicines.
The BJP Medical Cell further demanded that authorities verify the individual’s medical qualifications, registrations and legal permissions to provide treatment. The complaint also raised concerns that the advertisements may violate provisions of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 and the Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
The organisation urged the NMC Health Department, FDA, AYUSH Department and police administration to conduct an immediate investigation and take strict action if any illegality or public health risk is found. It warned that misleading medical claims on social media could financially and medically exploit vulnerable patients suffering from serious illnesses.
