In a major success for anti-Maoist operations, five senior Maoists, including a DVCM, PPCM and ACM rank cadre, surrendered before Gadchiroli Police and CRPF on Friday. The Maharashtra Government had announced collective rewards worth Rs 38 lakh on the surrendered Maoists.
Police identified the surrendered cadres as Madhu alias Rakesh Velada, Jivan alias Jaggu Madkam, Rajni alias Durga Dhurva, Mangli Kursam and Laxmi Punem. Officials said the surrendered Maoists were active in Gadchiroli and adjoining areas of Chhattisgarh for several years.
According to Gadchiroli Police, Maoist activity in the district has now been restricted mainly to border areas of Bhamragad subdivision. Since 2025, a total of 137 Maoists have surrendered before security forces, while overall 819 Maoists have laid down arms under the state’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.
Police said the surrendered Maoists will receive rehabilitation assistance from the Central and State governments as per policy norms. Senior officials of Gadchiroli Police and CRPF were present during the surrender programme.
