India Meteorological Department has predicted that the intense heatwave gripping Nagpur is likely to continue for at least another week, with temperatures expected to remain around 45°C to 46°C.
Speaking to The Hitavada, Pravin Kumar said Nagpur and several parts of Central India are currently experiencing severe heat conditions. Regions including Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are recording temperatures between 45°C and 46°C, along with strong dry winds locally known as ‘loo’.
The weather department has warned that hot and dry conditions may intensify further over the next two weeks, increasing concerns over public health and daily life. During afternoon hours, roads and marketplaces across the city are witnessing reduced movement as residents prefer to stay indoors.
Rise in Heat-Related Illnesses
Doctors in the region have reported a sharp rise in cases of heatstroke, dehydration, vomiting, diarrhoea and respiratory problems.
Medical experts have advised people to take extra precautions, especially children, senior citizens, pregnant women and those working outdoors.Doctors said many patients are arriving with symptoms linked to prolonged exposure to extreme heat and dehydration.
