With fuel prices continuing to rise and inflation putting pressure on operational expenses, the School Student Transport Association has decided to increase the fares of buses and vans transporting school and college students across Amravati district.
The decision was taken during a recent meeting of the association, following which transport charges are expected to increase by nearly 25 per cent. The hike is likely to add to the monthly financial burden on parents.
According to information shared during the meeting, the prices of petrol, diesel, CNG and LPG have increased considerably in recent months. In addition, RTO taxes have also gone up, while drivers and staff associated with school transport services are demanding higher salaries due to the rising cost of living.
The meeting was attended by School Student Transport Association president Bandubhau Kathilkar, vice president Rahul Ingle, secretary Devendra Bonde, contact chief Vasant Gaurkhede and several other office-bearers. Members unanimously approved the decision to revise transport fares.
At present, around 918 school transport vehicles are operating across the district for ferrying students to schools and colleges.
