The Maharashtra Government has granted administrative approval for the establishment of a modern orange processing centre at the Nagpur Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) under its Orange Processing Centre Development Scheme. The project, estimated at Rs 4 crore, received approval through a Government Resolution issued today by the Cooperation, Marketing and Textiles Department.
The approval has been granted subject to the terms and conditions laid down in Government Resolutions dated December 27, 2023, and October 8, 2025. The Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board, Pune, has been designated as the nodal agency for implementation of the scheme.
As per the scheme guidelines, beneficiaries are required to contribute a minimum of 15 percent of the project cost from their own funds, while the remaining 85 percent can be financed through bank loans. Upon completion of construction, the State Agricultural Marketing Board will conduct a physical inspection and issue a completion certificate. Thereafter, the State Government will release a subsidy of up to 50 percent of the project cost, subject to a maximum limit of Rs 4 crore, to the Board, which will then transfer the amount directly to the beneficiary’s bank account.
The Government Resolution stipulates that the primary processing project must be completed during the financial year 2026-27.It may be recalled that under the Government Resolution dated December 27, 2023, approval had already been granted for establishing modern orange processing centres in Nagpur, Katol and Kalmeshwar in Nagpur district, as well as Morshi in Amravati district and Buldhana.
The initiative is expected to strengthen orange processing infrastructure, enhance value addition, and provide better market opportunities for citrus growers in the region.
