The southwest monsoon has entered parts of South Konkan, but it is yet to become active across Maharashtra.
According to the latest weather forecast, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts until June 9. However, after that, the overall intensity of rainfall and the pace of monsoon advancement across the state are likely to weaken at least until June 15.
Weather officials have indicated that widespread and satisfactory rainfall is unlikely during this period. Instead, regions including Vidarbha, Marathwada, Khandesh, and parts of Madhya Maharashtra may experience scattered thunderstorms and isolated rain showers, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Such rainfall is not expected to be sufficient for large-scale sowing activities. The forecast also suggests that maximum temperatures are likely to remain above normal in many parts of the state until at least June 12.
Temperatures in Vidarbha and Khandesh are expected to stay above 40 degrees Celsius, while Marathwada may record temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius. In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the Agriculture and Disaster Management Department has advised farmers not to rush into sowing operations based solely on pre-monsoon or thunderstorm-related rainfall.
Citizens have also been urged to take precautions during thunderstorms and avoid sheltering under trees, tin sheds, near electric transformers, power poles, or overhead power lines during lightning activity.
