The Nagpur unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Chief Engineer of the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹30,000 from a contractor.
According to the ACB, the complainant, a contractor working with Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, had undertaken a water pipeline renewal project under the MJP Regional Office, Nagpur. After completing the work, the contractor had submitted the required documents and bills for payment.
The accused officer, Shubham Bachan Bhujbal (Class-I Officer), Chief Engineer, Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, Regional Office, Nagpur, allegedly demanded ₹30,000 from the contractor for processing and clearing the payment related to the completed project.
Following a complaint, the ACB conducted verification and found substance in the allegations. A trap was laid on June 10, during which the accused was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of ₹30,000 in his office chamber.
The ACB team immediately apprehended the officer, and legal proceedings are underway. A case is being registered at a police station in Nagpur.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior officers of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Nagpur. The ACB has appealed to citizens not to pay bribes to government officials or intermediaries for official work and to report any such demands to the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
