The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) staged a protest at Samvidhan Square here on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak scandal.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke arrived in Nagpur ahead of the demonstration and alleged, while speaking to reporters at the airport, that individuals linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were behind a physical attack on him during a protest in Jaipur a day earlier. Dipke was allegedly slapped repeatedly by two men on Monday while supporters were carrying him on their shoulders during the Jaipur demonstration. Police have detained two youths in connection with the incident.
Dipke said he remained undeterred and pledged to continue the movement through peaceful means. “Such attacks may continue, but I am not afraid. We follow the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi and Dr B.R. Ambedkar. This is our satyagraha and we will continue our struggle peacefully,” he said.
Ahead of the protest, Dipke held a press conference in the city where he also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not reaching out to students following the NEET-UG fiasco, saying that if the Prime Minister interacted with students he would understand their problems and find solutions. He reiterated that the CJP’s nationwide protest would not stop until Pradhan resigned.
Activists from Nagpur city and several districts of Vidarbha converged at Samvidhan Square, with police expecting a turnout of more than 2,000 youths. Elaborate security arrangements were put in place ahead of the demonstration.
The CJP, founded on May 16, 2026, by political communications strategist Abhijeet Dipke, emerged as a satirical political movement in response to remarks by the Chief Justice of India comparing unemployed youth to “cockroaches.” The party is not registered with the Election Commission of India.
