The delay in conducting summer examinations and declaring results by Nagpur University (NU) has begun affecting students seeking admission to postgraduate courses, with many struggling to meet admission deadlines at institutions across the country.
In one such case, a final-year BSc student from a Gondia college affiliated with NU travelled nearly 400 km to Indira Gandhi National Tribal University in Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh, to secure admission to an MSc Zoology programme.
However, the student was initially denied admission as NU is yet to issue her sixth-semester marksheet despite the examinations concluding on June 11. The student subsequently contacted officials in the university’s examination section seeking intervention.
Officials of IGNTU later communicated with their counterparts at NU and sought an official clarification regarding the pending BSc final-year result and the expected timeline for its declaration. Although NU has since provided the communication sought by IGNTU, the student’s admission remains uncertain.
“I travelled nearly 400 km to secure admission, but the university refused to consider my application because my sixth-semester results have not yet been declared by NU. I was hoping to secure a provisional admission, but the institute insisted on the original marksheet. I have cleared all my previous semesters, but my admission is now at risk through no fault of mine,” the student said.
In another case, a BTech student alleged that NU has yet to issue marksheets for examinations conducted during the previous winter session, affecting his chances of securing admission to another institution. Sources also claimed that a significant number of final-year results across various programmes have been withheld.
Nearly 30 per cent of BCom results have reportedly been withheld, further adding to students’ concerns. In another instance, the result of a commerce student applying for admission to an LLB course through the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) was withheld. The student later approached university authorities and managed to get the discrepancies corrected.
“But what about students who do not know whom to approach or how to get such issues resolved?” the student’s parents asked.
