Consumers who have recently received higher-than-expected electricity bills or have concerns regarding newly installed smart meters will have an opportunity to get their queries addressed as Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) is set to organise special Smart Meter Consumer Help Camps across Nagpur on Wednesday.
The camps will be held from 9 am to 2 pm and will enable consumers to get their electricity bills verified, understand the functioning of Time-of-Day (ToD) smart meters and seek clarifications directly from MSEDCL officials.
The initiative comes in the wake of complaints from several consumers who reported higher electricity bills following the installation of smart meters. According to MSEDCL, the camps are aimed at clearing misconceptions surrounding smart meters, explaining the billing mechanism and addressing consumer grievances.
At the camps, consumers can get their electricity bills checked and explained, understand how Smart ToD meters calculate electricity consumption, learn about Time-of-Day tariffs and rebates, resolve doubts related to meter readings and billing, and interact directly with Deputy Engineers and technical staff.
MSEDCL said consumers using electricity during designated daytime hours under the Time-of-Day tariff are eligible for a rebate of 85 paise per unit.
