A woman and her family travelling on the Danapur-Secunderabad Express allegedly faced harassment after a dispute over seat allotment escalated into chaos inside the coach.
The incident reportedly occurred on the intervening night of July 3 and 4 shortly after the train departed from Varanasi. No FIR has been registered in the case so far.
According to the complaint, several passengers without valid tickets entered the coach, resulting in an altercation and alleged harassment of the family. The complainants alleged that the coach lights were switched off during the commotion and that women members of the family were molested.
The family immediately contacted the Railway helpline by dialling 139 and also tagged the Railways’ official X handle seeking urgent assistance.
Senior Inspector Gaurav Gawande confirmed that the complaint was received through the 139 helpline. Personnel from the Railway Protection Force and ticket-checking staff attended to the family at Varanasi. After the train arrived in Nagpur on July 4, officials of the Government Railway Police met the victims and recorded their statements.
Gawande said the Nagpur GRP coordinated with its counterparts in Varanasi and forwarded the detailed complaint for further action. A fresh complaint was also registered in Nagpur and sent to Varanasi authorities for investigation.
