Nagpur’s long-awaited Indora-Dighori Flyover is nearing completion and is expected to be opened to traffic from August 1, offering much-needed relief to thousands of commuters who regularly face congestion in the eastern parts of the city.
Being constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at a cost of Rs 998 crore, the project is among the city’s largest infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic movement on key urban stretches.
The flyover will provide seamless connectivity between Kamal Chowk, Reshimbagh, Sakkardara, Bhande Plot and Dighori Naka, helping decongest some of Nagpur’s busiest roads and reducing travel time for daily commuters.
Officials said the project is in its final stage, with only a few crucial works left before it becomes operational. Among them is the installation of a 60-metre open web girder at Pachpaoli, which remains one of the last major structural components of the flyover.
Once the girder work is completed, the focus will shift to finishing activities, including installation of lighting systems, road signage, lane markings, safety features and other essential infrastructure required for commissioning.
The elevated corridor is expected to significantly improve traffic flow in East Nagpur by diverting through-traffic away from congested roads. Reduced travel time, smoother vehicular movement and lower fuel consumption are among the key benefits anticipated from the project.
Urban development experts believe the flyover will strengthen Nagpur’s road network and support future growth by enhancing connectivity between several densely populated localities.
With the August 1 deadline approaching, anticipation is building among residents and commuters who have long awaited the completion of the project. Once opened, the flyover is expected to bring substantial relief to one of the city’s most traffic-prone corridors.
